ICT

Montpellier's Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector has everything it takes to be a growth centre: a broad base of dynamic companies, strong potential in research, a diverse educational offer, and high-performance accompaniment.

INNOVATIVE COMPANIES WITH INTERNATIONAL STATURE
The local ICT sector is comprised of around 1,300 companies focusing on four key areas of expertise: software development, microelectronics, robotics, and multi-media. The economic community includes major international leaders (IBM, Dell, PalmSource...), IT services and consultancy companies (Cap Gemini, OAO Technology Solutions, Inforsud...), and emerging companies.

HIGH POTENTIAL FROM RESEARCH AND HIGHER EDUCATION
Montpellier Agglomération hosts several top-notch research laboratories, such as LIRMM (Montpellier Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Microelectronics), CEM2 (electronics and micro-optoelectronics), LAIN (interface analysis and nanophysics), LEM (electrotechnology), and CINES (National Computer Centre for Higher Education). Montpellier University II also represents significant potential in terms of education, with its 15,000 students, an engineering school specialised in informatics, robotics, and automation, and several Technical University Institutes.

DEDICATED START-UP INCUBATOR
The most recent incubator in Montpellier is Cap Omega, inaugurated in June 2004. Cap Omega is designed to welcome companies during the start-up phase, particularly companies that are focused on information and communication technologies. The incubator is located in the Eurêka park, in the heart of the business district, and near the Montpellier Méditerranée International Airport. Following incubation, startups can benefit from Montpellier's Millénaire business centre, which specifically caters to companies in the ICT sector.
