Montpellier Agglomération's plan for coherent territorial development, referred to as Scot (in French: schéma de coherence territoriale), will make it possible to reach two major objectives simultaneously: intensify economic development and maintain the attractiveness of the territory.

MEETING THE DEMOGRAPHIC CHALLENGE

Montpellier Agglomération must prepare to welcome an additional 100,000 residents by 2020. This forecast shows the importance of intensifying economic development to create enough jobs to adequately integrate new arrivals. Among other things, it will be important to use less space and to use it more efficiently.

PRESERVING NATURAL RESOURCES

One of the most important factors in the overall attractiveness of Montpellier Agglomération's territory is the high quality of its landscapes and natural areas. In its territorial development plan (Scot), environmental aspects are not considered as a constraint, but as a valuable resources to be managed intelligently through a balance of development and conservation.

FAST ACCESS TO SERVICES AND THE WORKPLACE

The Scot plan also balances and distributes real estate development throughout the Agglomération territory. Technology business parks are located close to research and higher education centres. Villages for Artisan Businesses and Service (VEAS) are distributed around the area, enabling people to live close to their place of work.
Industrial zones and logistics platforms are developed according to communication infrastructure. Via Domitia, for example, is a new 70 hectare professional zone located close to the railway, roads and highways. Via Domitia will host industrial companies and logistics services with significant added value.
